Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the associate
editors, the editorial board
and ASEE we are delighted
to have created this new journal - Advances in Engineering
Education - with its focus on applications. Not only
do we believe that there is a growing number of outstanding,
proven engineering education innovations that should be available
in archival form to the engineering education community, but
that by utilizing multimedia in a creative manner, they can
be most clearly presented to our readers. Consequently, we
are encouraging our authors to move beyond figures and tables
byh incorporating such media as animation, audio, graphics
and video as a means of enhancing the written text. In this
manner, we feel that we will not only be on the frontier of
engineering education, but also can set a standard for other
online journals.
We are particularly interested in those applications both
inside and outside the classroom that are based on a foundation
of accepted learning science principles and that have been
found to increase student learning and/or achievement. We
encourage you to submit articles that describe such innovative
curricula, courses and teaching practices. While it is not
required, we also encourage you to experiment with various
media in determining ideal formats for illustrating and communicating
your applications.
We look forward to receiving your papers as well as your
suggestions. We promise you timely,
professional reviews by knowledgeable peers, and a journal
that fulfills the needs of our community. While we are currently
soliciting full papers, in the near
future we anticipate also publishing as educational briefs
those works-in-progress that offer high potential of success.
